Hurricane Milton live updates: Florida bracing for direct hit from monster storm
Hurricane Milton, classified as an "extremely powerful" Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 145 mph, is expected to hit Florida tomorrow, likely targeting Tampa. The National Hurricane Center warns of potential storm surges up to 15 feet.
Meanwhile, crews are working quickly to clear debris from Hurricane Helene in anticipation of Milton’s arrival. At 8 a.m. ET, Milton was located about 545 miles southwest of Tampa, moving at 12 mph.
Largest water utility company in the U.S. targeted in cyberattack
American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility in the U.S., reported a cybersecurity incident after detecting unauthorized activity in their computer networks last Thursday. In response, the company activated its incident response protocols and enlisted third-party cybersecurity experts to help contain and investigate the breach. They also notified law enforcement and are cooperating with authorities.
As part of their response, American Water temporarily took their customer portal service offline, halting billing operations "until further notice." The company is focused on assessing the nature and scope of the cyberattack while prioritizing customer security and operational integrity.
