Top United Nations Official Denies Hamas Is a Terrorist Organization, Calls it a 'Political Movement'

In a recent interview, a United Nations official sparked controversy due to his comments about terrorist group Hamas, which is currently embroiled in a war with Israel in Gaza. Despite the history of the conflict in the Middle East, the official insisted that Hamas is not a terrorist organization.

CEO Mark Thompson is said to be planning a "revolution" at the news network, which will involve a range of budget cuts, including slashing some of its largest salaries. CNN's top earners include prime-time anchor Anderson Cooper, who pulls in a cool $20 million a year; Wolf Blitzer, who earns around $15 million; Jake Tapper, who is paid more than $8.5 million; and Chris Wallace, who makes about $8 million.

During a Wednesday interview with Sky News, U.N. Relief Chief Martin Griffiths was asked by the interviewer about Israel insisting that Hamas has no part in a future governing body for Gaza. Griffiths stated in his answer that the U.N. instead considers Hamas to be a “political movement,” not a terrorist organization.

I think it’s very difficult. And as you said, I’ve worked with many, many, many different terrorist and insurgent groups. Hamas is not a terrorist group for us, of course, as you know, it’s a political movement.

But that’s not all. Griffiths also insisted that despite the Hamas attack, in which they murdered over 1,000 Israeli soldiers and civilians, Israel should still work to build a relationship with Gaza because he could not “think of an example offhand of a place where a victory through warfare has succeeded against a well-entrenched group, terrorist or otherwise.”

Even further, Hamas has not only terrorized Israeli civilians. Since it took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, it has also meted out a myriad of human rights abuses against Palestinian civilians in the region. Through extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, and silencing peaceful protests, Hamas has wholly subjugated the population.

Bob's Red Mill is one of those companies. Their founder Bob Moore passed away on February 10. But the story of how he gave back to the community that embraced him, and chose to bypass corporate raiders to give the company back to its employees, is worthy of a Feel-Good Friday treatment.

Moore was originally a Southern Californian. He grew up in Los Angeles, and was an entrepreneur and business owner early on. He owned a couple of gas stations—one successfully, one unsuccessfully—then he worked the odd job here and there. Moore and his wife Charlee decided to move north to Redding, California, where he started a small mill with antique milling stones. Moore and Charlee decided to retire to Milwaukie, Oregon, to study theology, and left the mill to his sons to run. God had other plans, and it wasn't for him to study Greek and Hebrew.

Moore stayed at the helm of his company and remained on the board up until the time of his death. Both Moore and Charlee wanted to inspire future generations, so they made huge financial contributions to Oregon State University, Oregon Health & Science University, and other health-focused research programs throughout the state.

Not only did Moore share quality products, and tools for health and longevity with people, but he shared the bounty of his legacy and his earnings first with his employees, and then to the generations of young people in Oregon.
