Supreme Court Hands 9-0 Victory to Trump in Colorado Ballot Case

The Supreme Court has issued a speedy ruling in a case over former president Donald Trump's ballot eligibility, handing the Republican candidate a unanimous victory. The ruling came less than a month after hearing oral arguments, and at the time the Court seemed very skeptical of the decision.

While the state of Colorado had barred Trump from being on the ballot over Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, the Court ruled that "[b]ecause the Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse."

However, the Court did not address whether or not Trump actually took part in an insurrection, which was central to the reasoning behind Colorado's decision. Interestingly, the three liberal justices - Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown-Jackson - issued a concurring opinion, stating that they agree Colorado cannot keep Trump off the ballot.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett also issued a concurring opinion, hinting at the Supreme Court's role in deciding matters and not becoming or being used as a political tool. "In my judgment, this is not the time to amplify disagreement with stridency," she wrote.

"The Court has settled a politically charged issue in the volatile season of a Presidential election. Particularly in this circumstance, writings on the Court should turn the national temperature down, not up. For present purposes, our differences are far less important than our unanimity: All nine Justices agree on the outcome of this case. That is the message Americans should take home."

In its ruling, the Court acknowledged that Section 3 could be used to disqualify candidates for state office, but not federal. There are still legal challenges to Trump's ballot eligibility, though the ruling by the nation's highest court seems as though it will impact what other states have attempted.

Tony Bobulinski Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Cassidy Hutchinson

Tony Bobulinski, former business partner of Hunter Biden, is suing former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, alleging she misrepresented a meeting with former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows as unethical and potentially illegal.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, focuses on claims Hutchinson made in her 2023 book “Enough,” in which she discussed the details of a meeting between Bobulinski and Meadows during the 2020 campaign. The former Hunter Biden associate is seeking $10 million in damages. Bobulinski’s attorney said, “Ms. Hutchinson interposed commentary that gave a defamatory impression” when describing the meeting.

Hutchinson gained national attention in 2022 as a witness for the Democrat’s House Select Committee J6 investigation into the origins of the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol building. She made a series of allegations about former President Donald Trump and his supposed role in what the left falsely calls an “insurrection.” RedState’s Jim Thompson highlighted some of the holes in Hutchinson’s story.

Thompson also noted that “People with knowledge of ‘The Beast’ were quick to point out that no president is able to climb into the driver’s compartment, let alone over two Secret Service agents and grab the steering wheel.” The lawsuit comes just after Bobulinski gave testimony before Congress as House Republicans pursue an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The proceedings center on whether the president was involved in his family’s shady business dealings. Bobulinksi is believed to have knowledge indicating that Joe Biden was aware of Hunter’s business affairs and was intimately involved.

Now that his testimony is a part of the effort to impeach the president, it is not surprising to see these efforts ramp up. However, this lawsuit indicates that Bobulinski is not afraid to fight back.
