28 hikers, including 25 children, rescued on Arizona Hot Springs Trail from extreme heat
Extreme temperatures on the Arizona Hot Springs Trail left 28 hikers — 3 adults and 25 children with special needs — in need of rescue on Thursday, with trails now closed for the next few days.
Lake Mead National Park Service rangers responded to the large-scale rescue after the group attempted to reach Arizona Hot Springs "without adequate preparation," officials said. The trek is considered to be strenuous.
Hanson man sentenced to prison for dogfighting
A Massachusetts man was sentenced to more than a year in prison for federal dogfighting charges, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
John Murphy, 51, of Hanson, pleaded guilty in November to nine counts of possessing animals for use in an animal fighting venture in violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act. He had been indicted in March 2024 — the first time federal charges were brought in Massachusetts under the law.
